They made ties optional here a few years ago (I was a bit of a trendsetter there), and now we're about 90% tie-free (at least in my area). On "Casual Friday" we're about 85% t-shirts, 15% shirts. And women's dress certainly varies a lot more than men's does, and they get away with more.
