There is something wrong with the world (part 71664)

I missed sex education in school.

I switched schools two thirds of the way through the year, and while my first school was about to cover it, my second school already had.

However, I picked up from playground discussion that, as you'd expect in 1983, it was a very high-speed, glossed-over, tour of the lowest level of physicality. A necessary, but nowhere near sufficient, level of information that no more prepared people for having a sexual relationship than telling you that petrol burns prepares you for a career racing cars.

And it saddens me that we still don't teach children about what they should expect from a relationship - that schools don't seem to talk about the minimum level of what you should put up with from a partner, and most parents don't seem to know themselves, let alone pass it on.

I don't want the world to be the kind of place where you have to tell adults 11 ways to tell if your lover loves you - because if you reach adulthood without knowing that your partner should trust you, want to spend time with you, show an interest in your life, show you affection, and make you feel good about yourself, then something is completely fucked about the culture you grew up in.
