360 Streaming Question

I got a new NAS box recently. It's pretty damned awesome. All of my music is now on it, and it's happily streaming that to anywhere in the flat without a problem.

Except for the XBox 360.

Which will play the music - but insists on only showing "Artist" or "Album" view. Which is worse than useless. Because what I want is "Folder" view. Which the NAS box provides, and every other DLNA-compliant box in the flat will happily show, but the 360 has apparently decided is too confusing for the likes of me, and so hides.

Anyone ever seen a solution for this? My Google-fu is failing me...

Firefox compatibility

People have been complaining that with the new Firefox numbering system that addons won't work, because they rely on the numbers not changing rapdily.

So, I thought I'd reassure people that this shouldn't be a massive problem, so long as the addons they use are hosted on Mozilla.org.

Because they check all of them (in an automated fashion) and auto-icrement the version numbers for you.

I know this because I get an email every six weeks about my firefox addon (Image Source Copier) containing the text
Good news! Our automated tests did not detect any compatibility issues with your add-on Image Source Copier and Firefox 8.*. We've updated your add-on's compatibility to work with Firefox 8.* so that our Aurora users can begin using your add-on.

Why Facebook gets away with demanding "Real Names" and Google doesn't

If I go to join Facebook then I know, at the moment that I sign up, that it requires my real name. And all that that affects is my Facebook account.

If I go to join Google+ then I am almost certainly doing so with an existing Google Account - and that account may well already be full of things that I do not want to be connected to my public identity.

The two use conditions may well have looked similar from inside Google, but they are most definitely being felt differently outside of the company.

And that's why Facebook gets very little in the way of complaining about their (nigh-identical) policy, and Google are taking a lot of flak over it.

I really do think that unless they back down on this it's going to be the death of the system.

Punching Nazis In The Face!

I rather enjoyed this evening's episode of Dr Who.

"Let's Kill Hitler" was a great title for the episode. Lots of interesting ideas thrown in there, a plot that feels like it's leading more in the direction of answers, and some holes filled in for us.

Not perfect, but an awful lot of fun, some nice moments of humour, and Rory got to do something awesome that would be a spoiler if I told you.

More like this please.

(It's possible that I'm enjoying the second part of the season more now I'm not expecting there to be actual individual episode stories.)
