More Like This

There are some people on this list because I know them in real life. Some people because of their insight and argumentative skills. And some people because reading their journals amuses me no end, giving glimpses of lives and events that I wish I'd been at.

This is an example of the last category.

The wedding was held in a beautiful manor house of uncertain vintage, but there was no doubt about the place it held in the hearts of Man and His Best Friend. They immediately drew up plans to buy the place together as soon as they won the lottery. Why?

So that they could dig a 'batcave' beneath it.

I despair, I really do.

"Yeah,...right...what it is, right, if you win the lottery, then you buy this place, we'll dig a batcave and you can be my butler."

"Cool Yeah And we'll have to buy a field as well. A big one."

"What's the field for?"

"So we can get a couple of Saracen tanks and race them around the field to Ride of the Valkyries." This delivered in a tone that suggested there could be nothing else in the world to DO with a field other than race tanks to Wagner in it.

Licenses

This illustrates the problem of those licenses that pop up on the screen from time to time. Not only don't they expect you to read them, but at times they think about them so little that they don't even make it possible for you to do so. Thankfully, this makes them pretty much unenforcable in law, but it's a ridiculous situation to end up in when the head of custoemr care tells you to just click on the "I agree" button without reading anything...

I was looking into laser hair removal and wondering how much other people would be willing to pay to never have to shave again...

Good day

Khi and Bekka arrived home at 5am, briefly waking me. I got up at around 10am and chatted to people (including Bekka's mum) until 1:30-ish, when myself and Ed wandered off in search of the nearby beach (which I'd seen on the beach, but never managed to walk to). Turned out to be Portobello beach, which I had no idea was so close. We wandered back and forth and chatted about cabbages and kings and the things we liked and disliked about Star Wars (pluses - some nicely subtle plot, minuses - some abysmal dialogue).

I headed back for 3pm, which was when Andy (Marianne's husband) was supposed to be arriving. He finally turned up at 4:45, 15 minutes before we were due to head over to Guy's for cards. Apparently he'd become confused by the fact that every road in the area is called Loganlea something and had spiralled in circles for an hour before calling me...

We chatted while me, Andy, Khi and Ami (another old Uni friend) bussed to the end of London Road and then wandered through the train station to Guy's flat. Cards was played and I managed to not lose too abysmally for once.

I then walked back, chatting happily to Andy about Iraq and the NHS and politics and suchlike. It was hugely enjoyable to have someone to talk about these things in person with. I chatted to Ed about it afterwards and decided I'm going to make an effort to seek out people who are interested in politics and economics and the world around them. Not sure how yet, but we're looking into it.

And now to bed, the joys of work await me tomorrow!
