The Recutting of the Ring

This was originally going to be a comment here, but I liked it enough to appropriate it for myself.

I said, when they announced that there would be 3 films, that I thought that 6 2 hour films would work better. And I pretty much got my wish, as the extended edition of FOTR works out to be 2 1:45 films, the first covering the Journey to Rivendell and the Council, the second covering Moria, Lorien and the breaking of the fellowship.

Alternatively, you have 4 episodes of LOTR - the series, the first covering the party (they leave Hobbiton at about the 50 minute mark), the second Journey to Rivendell, the third is Moria and the fourth is Lorien/the breaking.

In fact, if they broke it into 45 minute episodes, then they could have devoted an episode to Sam/Frodo, one to Merry/Pippin, one to the journey of Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli after the hobbits and one to Helms Deep, thus not skipping back and forth between everyone all the time. I think it would have worked better.

When it all comes out in the uber-boxed-set maybe someone will re-cut it just for me :->
