The ever-entertaining slammerkinbabe pointed me at this piece on speed-book-dating. The idea being that you have your standard 5-minutes-with-each-person speed date, only you have, on the table in front of you, your 3 favourite books, to inspire conversation. Five minutes intensive conversation about their favourite books sounds like the kind of thing that people I know could get to grips with :->

My three books would be...

I just finished reading "We Need to Talk About Kevin.", which is the best book I have read in a long time.  I'm too blown away to say anything coherent about it right now, but it feels like a far more adult book than anything I've read before.  I'll try to write something coherent over the weekend, but in the meantime, I can heartily recommend it to anyone that doesn't demand answers at their endings.

Just finished reading Quicksilver last night, which has led me to spend the following 3 hours reading Neal Stephenson's website, numerous Wikipedia articles on the Glorious Revolution and James II, and annotations from around the web.

I'm somewhat overwhelmed by the huge amounts of detail, and in some ways would have preferred it if he'd just written an entertaining non-fiction book.

Next in the series is The Confusion, which will hopfully make me _less_ confused. But first I have about 5 other books to finish off - including We Need to Talk about Kevin and the second Science of Discworld book.
