Chrome And Thunderbird

Latest Chrome is out - and it supports extensions.

A quick looks tells me than in the next few weeks it'll do pretty much everything I want it to, except for work with tabs the way I want. It doesn't have anything like Tab Mix Plus, which I find utterly invaluable.

I shall keep my fingers crossed, because frankly it does seem faster than Firefox.

Latest version of Thunderbird (v3) is out too. That seems pretty nice the new tabbed interface works well.

This is barely a game. There's no way, so far as I could tell, to lose at it. It's basically an exploration piece.

The graphics are brutally basic, but when you pull back they have a minimalist beauty about them. The music sucks you in. And the different environments and the way you explore them is very nicely pulled together. It has, at its heart, a sense of wonder.

It's 20 minutes I'm glad I spent, which is more than I can say for a lot of things.

I had that Saddam Hussein in the back of my cab once...

The claim that Saddam could launch weapons of mass destruction in 45-minutes arose as British intelligence were "squeezing" agents in Iraq for information, under pressure from Downing Street to back up its case that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

"The provenance of this information was never questioned in detail until after the Iraq invasion, when it became apparent that something was wrong," he said.

"In the end it turned out that the information was not credible, it had originated from an emigre taxi driver on the Iraqi-Jordanian border, who had remembered an overheard conversation in the back of his cab a full two years earlier."

Pancake Sunday

Pancakes for breakfast today. Julie made some with splenda for me as an experiment - and they were great! And she even selflessly made them before she made her own (sugary ones). Which means that it was terribly unfair karma for her to sneeze while eating one five minutes later and end up with pancake in her nasal passages.

Apparently this is not recommended.

A 2008 study found that more than 1 in 100 American adults are in prison or jail. One in every 31 adults (7.3 million) is in prison, or on parole or probation. One out every 45 whites is under some form of correctional control- and one out of every 11 blacks. 1 in 18 men and 1 in 89 women (races combined). Spending on corrections has risen by 400% in the last 20 years, outpacing all but Medicaid in growth.

22:30 first login. Connect to Ninite to install software and Windows Update to update the graphics driver, etc.
22:44 reboot finished
22:49 Bookmarks and passwords retrieved from xmarks. Contacts synched with GMail. Email set up
22:54 Tabmix plus and Adblock plus both installed. Normal browsing resumes.

I've dropped all my important documents into DropBox, made sure my music is on the networked hard drive, and copied Neverwinter Nights off there as well, just to be on the safe side.

It's time to install Windows 7.

I have no particular interest in Blu-ray at the moment. I don't feel the need to rebuy all my old DVDs, and in fact tend to watch movies via VoD or download at the moment anyway. (Or at the cinema). And the quality improvements didn't really seem worthwhile, until I saw this review of the Zulu Blu-ray. Scroll 2/3 of the way down and see the difference in quality between the various DVD transfers and the Blu-Ray one.

Still, I'm not about to rush out and buy one - but when the current DVD player finally dies, if the LOTR extended Blu-rays are finally out, then I could be tempted to upgrade...
