If it wasn't for modern medical technology, would your quality of life be massively worse?
"Modern" in this case being "Anything from the 20th century or later".
And it has to be a direct effect. "Measles epidemics would reduce the population dramatically, and thus make me unhappy" doesn't count - I'm looking for "I had appendicitis, and would have died if it wasn't removed."
The second question is for people who were hit with something (or have a problem/disability) that wouldn't necessarily kill you, but would definitely make life a lot worse if it wasn't for medical tech helping with it.
