The "What programming language" link garnered multiple responses from people saying "Of course <favourite language>". Which shouldn't have surprised me as much as it did, despite the pointlessness of that kind of thing.

That link about CEOs having children and the effect on the wages they offer is about a study in Denmark-- interesting, but I'd like to see how it plays out in more countries.

The advice in the article on learning programming languages is really good, and refuting the usual arguments in favour of C, Java and C#. I especially liked that he mentions an important network effect a few times: if you have a friend who programs in language XYZ, you'll have some support to help you when you get stuck -- and that's an important argument to choose a particular language over another one.

Yeah. I love C#, but it's not something I'd throw at a beginner because you need to understand a bunch of stuff before you can start playing with it. Give someone a simple dynamic language that you can just start playing with and they can get going and pick up the theory later.

Like many of those sweded and 'be kind rewind' film remakes, Toy Story was tons of fun to watch.

Had one of those 'something is wrong on the internet' temptations though, when noticing that one of the top comments on the YouTube page had a couple of f-bombs while complaining about downvotes. 'Really? swearing in a comment on a kids film?' I fumed, fingers poised above the YouTube comment box...

What programming language should I learn first? doesn't even suggest any answers to the question.

"This usually whittles the contenders down to popular scripting languages—Python, Ruby, JavaScript, Lua or similar"

And I'd agree with that, while also agreeing that having a project to drag you in is more important.
