"And Alaska - we're set up, unlike other states in the union, where it's collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs."

That's Sarah Palin, elsewhere to be found calling Barack Obama a communist.

You gotta love the hypocrisy.

(coming in from SB's LJ)
I don't actually understand what she's trying to say, it's so incoherent.

She'll say whatever gets people to vote for her at any point in time. She has no ideology.

SP: Vote for me because of reason X!
*six months pass*
SP: Don't for vote for my opponent, because of reason Y!
Press: Don't those two statements contradict each other?
SP: Vote for me!

*shakes head*
How did this woman actually get to where she is? Small town mayor OK but state governor?

By essentially giving the people of Alaska what they want. Amongst other things, she imposed a windfall tax on oil companies within Alaska and basically gave everyone in the state a $1200 tax cut. She also gave the go ahead for exploitation of more of Alaska's resources. Whether these things are necessarily good for Alaska, or the rest of the country, is debatable, but she is certainly popular. Her popularity within Alaska was something ridiculous like 90% shortly after she was elected, and is still something like 68%, which is impressive for an incumbent governor.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending her, I think she's a lunatic, but the people of Alaska clearly have a different opinion. Perhaps this something about the electorate of that state.

*nods* Makes sense, in a way.

It still doesn't mean that she'd be fit to be president (which a VP should be). I mean, I really like the mayor of my hometown, he's done good things and is a likeable fellow but would I want him to be German Chancellor? No. He knows his stuff, he knows the community and he knows who to talk to to make things happen, locally, that's it.

Palin-drome: a sentence that doesn't make sense backwards or forwards.

Rather than hypocrisy I'd just say stupidity.
